Timisoara-Harlequins : Jack Umaga to start at fly-half

With Jody Rose injured to the knee, Jack Umaga will start with the number 10 jersey Saturday against the Harlequins. He will lead a very Oceanian backline with Romania international Paula Kinikinilau returning from a long recovery.

Grainger Heikell starts his best possible tight five with Eugen Capatina preferred to Andrei Radoi at hooker. Heavy lock Marian Drenceanu starts ahead of newly international Ionut Muresan.

Grainger Heikell chose to start Daniel Ianus to replace injured Vasile Rus. Marian Gorcioaia isn’t in the 23. « Daniel Ianus is a quality performer, with a high work rate and accurate actions, and good understanding of our game. His mobility early in the game will be valuable given we expect a high pace, high intensity start from Harlequins. »

With playmaker Jody Rose injured since Romania’s game against the USA, Grainger Heikell had to find a valuable solution at fly-half. The New Zealander didn’t have any headaches to find one : « Given Jack’s recent form, experience and ability he’s a must have for our backline presently. It was an easy choice for Jack to play 10. » Jack Umaga already had to lead Timisoara backline during the second half against Stade Français  : « I played the whole 40 minutes at fly-half. It was good. I get to play with the ball more. I feel a bit more involved than in the midfield. I was also a lot closer to the action. I’m comfortable playing 10. And having experienced players next to me helps me to focus on my core job ».

Timisoara will probably need to play at his best ever to beat the Harlequins but clearly fears no one. « We need to play with focus, desire and pride. To stick to our systems and plans, and to play without fear. We want to leave the field knowing we played our game and gave it all we had » tell Grainger Heikell. « We’ve done some analysis of recent games Harlequins have played, which hopefully helps our understanding of their strengths« .
